I’ve been changing some mail records on DNS systems, and I got a mail bounce… It’s no wonder why I didn’t receive the email!

Cottage Garden Border 2009 Hosta Update

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

An update of how the garden border is progressing two years on. In May 2007 we created a new border at the front of the garden under the trees, which is very shady. We planted hostas, fox gloves and geraniums, and despite the battle with slugs and snails, moving the geraniums, that didn’t do to well in the shade this is the latest update. This year in early spring I moved the fern to the back of the border, because it domninated the border when in full growth. I seem to have lost one of the original hostas, don’t know where it went. I’ve also now used, grit over the entire area to stop the slugs and snails eating the hostas!

Blog performance, blank home page!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

You may have visited and found you were greeted with a blank page in the last 24 hours! I think I’ve found the issue, and disabled that feature! I think it’s linked to the performance of my hosts MySQL shared database server, running out of steam!

Our House imported posts from legacy blog

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

I’ve now imported all the posts from the old Our House blog. I’ve still got to convert the posts with photos and internet links in before they get published here. I think I’ve decided to take the plunge, and no longer update the old legacy blogs, and new posts will appear on this new blog, in the various categories, sections or topics. It will make things easier for posting, and make easier reading. To keep the timeline correct, they’ve all been tagged as category house, but I’ve also tagged them in other relevant categories. So over the coming weeks, you’ll see more of the older posts appearing, once they’ve been duly converted (provided WordPress and the hosting holds out!)

Windows XP Failure!

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

I’ve now struggled for a man week, in repairing my production workstation, so have decided to backup it up using Symantec Ghost 8.0. I know this is not the latest product from Symantec but it works for me. I have a dedicated VLAN in the office for multicasting ghost images around the network, so it doesn’t impact on the main internal network.

After I have a full backup of the operating system, I can then tinker with the service packs and repair procedures.

Ghosts in the machine!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

ah, the reason no data is being shown is my wattson has crashed and hung. It will be a few days, until it gets over it’s illnes! It has done this before in the last 510 days I’ve been logging data. I don’t know what’s going on here, my TiVo crashed again, my phone reset and crashed, I’m still trying to get my PC working, and Wattson’s poorly!

Still struggling with WordPress running config

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Still having issues with the performance of WordPress. As you may have noticed by now when visiting the site, sometimes it just displays a blank page with no error. I’m still trying to track down the fault, it’s possibly caused by MySQL database issues, PHP errors, PHP Memory issue or lack of performance on host! So I’ve currently disabled all plugins, to test if it’s a plugin fault!!!

Tropheus Moorii Ikola & Synodontis Petricola

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

These are currently two of my favourite fish, Tropheus Moorii Ikola cichlids and Synodontis Petricola catfish. I have five wild sub adults Tropheus Moorii Ikola and six Wild Synodontis Petricola. I’m very tempted to convert to Lake Tanganyikan Cichlids, the water here in Yorkshire is suited to these fish. Watch this space. There are many different colour variations of Tropheus Moorii, and these little fish, are very aggressive. I hope to breed them in the future.

Technology has moved on, and it’s easier for me to pop into the fish house with a DV Camcorder, hook up to PC, capture the contents to a Windows Media Video (WMV) file, and upload to YouTube for hosting. So here’s the first one, you can expect some more in the future.

Teething issues again!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Web hosting server is still giveing me issues again!, appears to be back on again!

I’ll update the webcam pages, and relocate the camera tomorrow.

One of the Geophagus that I removed from the display tank of other Geos’ started to beat-up the catfish in the quarantine tank, so now his tail has grown back, I’ve moved him into the 6″ display tank with all the Angels. Hopefully he’ll calm down with fish his own size.

Lobsters have hatched and disappeared in a 48x18x18 tank, with lots of ocean rock, time to remove the female lobster, if I can catch her, and return to the breeding tank with the male.
