Front Garden at the end of April 2007

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

A few blog readers have asked for more pictures of the garden. He are more pictures of the front garden, because we do not have a back garden!

Front Garden1
Right of picture is the pear tree in blossom. In the foreground is the Magnolia, flowering has almost come to an end.

Front Garden2
We planted 10kgs of daffodills in the lawn in November 2006, so we are waiting for them to die down, before cutting the entire lawn.

Front Garden3
Has the chimney moved?

I’ve also completed and fixed some code, I’ve been working on for months, so the pictures displayed above are thumbnail versions of the original versions which are also stored on the blog server, they are “clickable”. So if you click the pictures you will see the original images before resizing to fit the blog.

Ammonia Alert by Seachem

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

This is an interesting “Ammonia Testing Kit”, it’s called the Ammonia Alert by Seachem. Designed to stay permanently in the water, and the centre indicator changes colour when ammonia levels rise. This is a similiar concept to the Carbon Monoxide detectors which change colour. Changes from yellow (safe) to blue (toxic). It’s designed to last at least 12 months. I purchased this device just under 10 GBP UK Pounds, which is about double what an ammonia testing kit will cost you. Expensive to add one of these to all my tanks! But handy in critical tanks, holding expensive breeding pairs!

Ammonia Alert
I purchase this fish gadget on my travels, I have seen these advertised, as I was contacted by someone trying to sell me this device and I also believe there is a similiar device called the ph Alert.

Back to the West Country

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I’ve been away from my home and fish house, I’ve spent 10 days back in the West Country – Plymouth to be exact. Where the water is soft (ph 6.5-7.0) unlike my local tap water which is hard (you can stand a teaspoon in it!) and ph 8.0 – 8.5. and the vast numbers of tropical fish shops, I spent a day and a half visting them all!

I visited the following Tropical Fish Shops, when visting in and around Plymouth, and excellent stock of fish on display, South American Cichlids and Ls, I just wish I could have taken them all home!

and on the long journey home, I visited

Many Thanks and Good Luck to the following, hope to see you again in the future, on returning to Plymouth.

Jerry at Bretonside Tropicals
Mark at Tropical Waters Aquatic Pet Centre

and a special thanks to

Lounge, Stairwell and Landing Decoration (Before)

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Since we moved in last August 2006 after having the damp course fixed, we’ve been waiting for the walls to dry out, before we could decorate. A decorator has been found, and we’ve decided to have all the walls lined in the lounge, stairwell and landing, and then painted with antic white paint. (almost white but not quite). Esther’s booked into the cattery, and we are off to Plymouth for 10 days, whilst the decorator is in residence. Here are some photos before:-

RSS Feed busted again …

Friday, April 13th, 2007

The RSS Feed is currently broke, I fixed an earlier fault, where the blog wouldn’t display more than 100 pictures, this was resolved, but I didn’t realize the code that fixed the 100 picture fault, has broken RSS feeds, so it’s pictures or RSS feed.

So for the time being RSS Feed is OFF (broke!), until fixed!
