eaga ShowerSmart unit
I’ve just done some quick DIY (5 minutes) in the bathroom and fitted an eaga ShowerSmart, and the good news is they are free of charge to UK householders. I applied for mine so long ago, I forgot about it!
It’s a small metal unit, which restricts the flow of water through your shower head, saving water and energy.

The eaga ShowerSmart is suitable for use with non-electric mixer showers or bath/shower mixer taps, provided they run off the mains water pressure.
It’s supplied with two washers, good instructions, and a small plastic bag which you use to check if your shower is in-efficient.

This is a job long overdue. I spent many days last year removing all the Ground-elder from the border under the hedge, dug out all the soil and replaced with new. You wouldn’t think so this year, the Ground-elder is back, but I think this time it’s worse because of the new soil in the border. I like to garden organically, so no weed killer, just hoe, trowel and spade to dig it out by hand. While I’m attending to the border under the hawthorn hedge, I think it’s time to attend to the gravel drive, well most of the pea size gravel has gone, and I’m left with a green drive. In the future, it needs a weed membrane and new gravel or larger pebbles to stop the weeds taking over, so this is my Bank Holiday project!
Fire Update!
Monday, May 11th, 2009Fire update, the two fire engines continued working on the fire for a total of an hour. It would appear that there was no barn or house on fire.
The Fire Hydrant by Night
A large pile of super-heated cow/horse manure Spontaneously combusted! (a bit like pistachio nuts are prone to self-heating and spontaneous combustion in very large quantities!). Yes it’s true! Believe me, I’m not talking cow manure here.
That’s about as much excitement, as we get around here…If I get time tomorrow and the weather is good, forecast is cloudy, I’ll get a picture of the burnt out cow/horse manure. May come in handy for the Countryfile Photographic Landscape Competition.

Monday, May 11th, 2009Excitement in the hamlet this evening, busy watching the world go by, out in the garden painting the newly repaired Bird Table (post coming soon!). Two John Dennis Fire Engines hurtled past towards the next village (this happened last year when someone’s grain dryer burnt down). Ten minutes later one of the engines returned to my hamlet because they couldn’t find the fire hydrant in the nearby village, and someone told them there was on in my hamlet, it’s just been painted by the Council bright yellow, and is just opposite my house. Do you know where you nearest fire hydrant is?

and then there was two, both came back to fill up.
As I type, one has just returned, that’s four trips….while the house or barn burns down! I can tell because the blue flashing lights are reflecting on my monitor.
I think they must have done, there’s no urgency anymore, and the fire officers are talking to the neighbours, while they look at me, typing!

Corporate Customer Services Competition
Saturday, April 25th, 2009I’m having a competition between two large high street shops, who’s business turn over – tax free profits are 280m and 160m respectively. Two items have failed, and I’ve had issues with the shops replacing or repairing the items, so I’ve deciced to return to the Managing Director at their Head Offices for repair or replacement. It will be interesting test of their Customer Service, and if they are the caring, sharing brands, they claim. If they give me the cold shoulder, I’ll name and shame them here! Lets wait
Our House imported posts from legacy blog
Thursday, April 16th, 2009I’ve now imported all the posts from the old Our House blog. I’ve still got to convert the posts with photos and internet links in before they get published here. I think I’ve decided to take the plunge, and no longer update the old legacy blogs, and new posts will appear on this new blog, in the various categories, sections or topics. It will make things easier for posting, and make easier reading. To keep the timeline correct, they’ve all been tagged as category house, but I’ve also tagged them in other relevant categories. So over the coming weeks, you’ll see more of the older posts appearing, once they’ve been duly converted (provided WordPress and the hosting holds out!)

Friday, April 3rd, 2009These times are changing it’s been five years, I’ve been blogging, and the software I’ve been using has run it’s course and it’s time to upgrade to something more current. Over the next coming months, I will try and merge aquablog and our house blogs into one blog, with different categories, rather than two seperate blogs which is how they exist at present. This will allow me to blog in more specific categories, fish house, garden DIY, car, computers, internet etc, you get the general idea. So you can select a category (section) to read, rather than ready all the rubbish I blog about. The FishHouse Blog! and Our House blogs haven’t moved and are still there. Just click the links to access them. Eventually they will be merged into categorys (sections) here.
Real-Time Energy Usage on Blog
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009Real-time energy usage readout of electricity used in our house is now available for all to see. Average consumption is approx 3000 watts (3kW). If it increases to approx 6000 watts (6kW) then someone in the household has put the kettle or cooker on for tea! Between the hours of 12.30 – 7.30 GMT Economy 7 starts and in the winter the storage heaters turn on, so expect some high wattage readings between these hours.
