Flash in the pan! (iPad iOS 3.2.1)

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Well it’s on my iPad actually!

A few days before iOS 4.x gets released for the iPad…

There was nothing on the TV this evening, other than Black Hawk Down, and I’ve seen that so many times, so I got bored and enabled Flash on my iPad!

andysworld! Blog: Huawei E585 Unlock download!

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

iPad Gadget of the Year – Huawei E585 – also called MiFi device.

The Huawei E585 MiFi Moble WiFi Wireless 3G Modem is currently exclusively only available on the Three network and it’s SIM-locked to this network, if you insert another SIM from another provider O2, Voda UK, Orange or T-Mobile you’ll receive an “Insert SIM”, “Bad Sim”, “Sim Lock”, “Invalid SIM” or similiar error. If you would like to use this fanastic 3G Wireless Router on another network you’ll need to remove the SIM-LOCK. This is where you need to be very careful, there are various different ways of removing the SIM-LOCK, the correct way and the wrong way, some hacks have re-written the firmware, the result removes the SIM-LOCK, but leaves you with a E585 modem with modified firmware, and you’ll not be able to change the firmware in the future.

This method reveals the true SIMLOCK code, and then you enter this SIMLOCK code into the E585 via the web interface.

  4. Read and download flash contents from MiFi (E585).
  5. Unlock code is hidden in flash contents.
  6. Enter Unlock code in hidden menu.
  7. UNLOCKED.
  8. For details on unlocking and software please make a 10 GBP donation via PayPal.
  9. and by return I’ll send you the PDF document and software to unlock your E585.

Welcome to my New Secret Garden

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Lets say the magic word – “Herbidacious”, and welcome to my New Secret Garden …

           Entrance to my Secret Garden

I’m very fortunate, I’ve been after some land, to grow vegetables on for a while, we still await the outcome of funding for our local allotment association.

A neighbour in the hamlet has kindly agreeded to let me have part of the garden to cultivate and grow vegetables, because the garden is very large and it’s too much for them to maintain. This area of the garden used to be culivated and used as a vegetable plot, 10 years ago.

I’m very excited, don’t know, when I’ll find the time, but it’s very close to where I live. It’s going to be a lot of work, but follow the journey here, it starts now…but well worth it I’m sure.

Marina and the Diamonds, Leeds University 5th November 2010

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

Another fanastic concert by Marina and her band. The University union gig was packed in like sardines in a can. A cross section of the public from teenagers to Mums and Dads escorting their children, or Mum’s escorting their children! (got to be careful what I write, as there’s children reading the blog!).

This video is also available in HD, as it was shot in HD, on a Cisco Flip HD! Just change the you tube options, if you’ve got the bandwidth!

Bootleg DVDs available of the Marina and the Diamonds, Leeds University 5th November 2010 ‘Burger Queen Tour’ gig at a £5 donation towards DVD and p&p (UK), and electricity required to transcode and burn the DVDs!

Broadband throughput starts to increase…and I don’t know why…

Friday, November 5th, 2010

I noticed this evening when downloading an iso, that my download speed was in excess of 350kB/sec, this is double than normal! So I then decided to start running some tests again, and this is what I found.

ThinkBroadband Speed Test 4 Nov 2010

Now whats odd about this, is my line 3.7km away from the Exchange, until now has only been able to support speeds from 1.6 – 2.0Mbps, and more recently 1.6Mbps, which has been okay, despite the fact that I pay for an upto 8Mbps service! (but that’s the price you pay to live in a CountryHouse). But it’s almost doubled to 2.9Mbps!

But what’s even weirder, is only a few days ago, I got a nice email from Eclispe Sales, trying to entice me onto a 12 month contract the email reads:-

“We are always trying to improve the products and services that we offer our customers and I would like a chance to discuss your current package with you.

By changing to our Business Bronze package, you could reduce your monthly cost to £19.95+vat and increase your fair usage allowance from 40gb to 50gb. You may also see an improvement in throughput speeds.

Please let us know when you would like us to call you. Alternatively, if having read this, you would like to change to the Business Bronze package, please reply to this email and we will change this for you.

Please note that if you switch to a new service, you will start a new 12 month contract. If you then decided to leave before the end of this 12 month period, an early termination fee would apply.”

I said we would consider this, but at only a £1 reduction a month, and quite happy now with existing service (despite over 20 months of issues, which touch wood have now been resolved!), We are reulctant to change, especially into a 12month contract!

It’s just odd now, our throughput starts to increase….

Until next time, when it’s back to normal!

Another date with Marina!

Skyfire App for ipad

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010
Skyfire for iPhone or iPad

Skyfire for iPhone or iPad

The Skyfire App for iPhone, iPad appeared today in the App Store, the app will turn Web-based Flash video into HTML5 and play it on your iPhone or iPad.

What a real disappoitment, it’s not a true iPad App, and the up-scaling is awful.

My advice, wait for an Ipad version! and save your money!

Samsung Galaxy Tab[let] – How much?

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Samsung launched it’s tablet today called the Samsung Galaxy Tab:-

  • 7″ touch-screen tablet PC
  • Android Operating System
  • Voice & video calling
  • Internet
  • Social Networking
  • e-Mails
  • Google Maps Navigation
  • Games, movies & music
  • Camera with LED Flash
  • Electronic reading

and it’s wait for it £529 GBP same price as the iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G

I know which I’d buy! (oh, I’ve already got one!) Long live Apple!

Okay so it’s got Flash 10.1, but will have iOS 4.2 Software Update. Coming soon to iPad. It was released today to developers (me and others!), and the new Skyfire mobile web browser will have Flash support!

Skyfire will issue its Flash Video-enabled browser for the iPhone on Nov. 4, allowing consumers to finally run Flash-based websites on the iPad!

So stick that Apple Haters, and go and by your Samsungs, and Google Android…..
