Lindsey didn’t like the shape of the border! So out with the spade, fork and edging tool again.

Ground has been marked out and cut with edging tool.

Grass sods removed and bagged, to take down the local tip, the last time I did this in two car runs, I almost snapped the back axel on the car! Doesn’t seem alot of grass removed but each bag weighs approx 50kg! We will see if the car still works afterwards this week, and Lindsey wonders why the car, makes new noises, with 164,000 miles on the clock, and used as a tractor! I don’t think you can make out my the stainless steel edger (which is bent!) and new Stainless Steel fork, with a 10 year guarantee – nice! Well it’s nice to have, good tools!

Some friends visited us for cream teas on Sunday afternoon (with real Devon clotted cream, none of this crap artificial stuff out of a can!) and in return for signing and witnessing their new wills before they go on holiday! they gave us some new plants from their Plant Nursery for the garden.
So Andy’s had to dig and expand the border to accomodate them all!

Before

After, the border still needs digging over, soil improver adding, and the plants planting!
Thanks to Julie and Pete for the plants!

The yellow patches are the result of cutting the grass very late, after letting the the daffodils die back. I’m hoping to get some lawn fertiliser on the lawn in the next few days, which I’m hoping should put some colour back!

This is my new organic, environmentally friendly, weapon against slugs and snails.
Let me introduce you to Mrs Tiggy-winkle

and for those of you who don’t read Beatrix Potter, shame on you, it’s a young Hedgehog that has decided to visit the garden to eat those pesky slugs and snails! I hope she’s road-wise!
The Slug Gone and Copper Rings have worked very well, and my Hostas are doing much better, or is it the work of Mrs Tiggy-winkle?

The weather has been so hot this weekend, I’ve been able to get on and give the final coats of paint to Hector’s House. Thanks to Lindsey because she touched-up the door and windows.

Shed completed.
So, onto the next DIY project, I’ve just bought myself a new toy, to replace a busted cordless drill, I’ve bought a new 18v combi cordless Makita drill, with electronic clutch, I’m just running around the house, drilling holes everywhere now! This is to enable me to complete the second loft and fully board it out, to free-up Bedroom 3 for the Nursery!
UPDATE The slugs and snails have still been eating my Hostas, the used coffee granuals did not work, so I’ve emptied 12kg of used coffee granuals on my garden for no reason! Strange because a friend, states they have been working fine for her, on her allotment, but she does get them from Starf***s! Maybe their coffee has something nasty in it! Unlike the Freetrade coffee granuals I’ve been using. But I’ve got a secret weapon for the slugs…!

Since I’ve been having a few problems with the slugs and snails eating one of my prize Hostas, I thought I’d upload some close-up pictures of them. I’ve always wanted to grow hostas, and now I have a shaddy part of the garden, ideal. I’ve used some sharp grit to mulch the area around the plants, and I’ve boiled-up some garlic cloves in water, and I’ve been spraying the plants and ground to keep the slugs and snails off.

Close up of the three Hostas

If you click the picture and look at the larger image, you’ll see where the snails/slugs have been eating this plant.

I do have the latin names if interested!

Lindsey weeded this natural cottage garden border under the Holly Tree at the front of the garden. It already has wild garlic, a wild fern and Cuckoo Pints Arum maculatum growing in it, so these were left, but the weeds were thined out.

Plnated with White and Apricot Foxgloves Digitalis purpurea, Hostas and Geraniums.
UPDATE The bloody slugs or snails have started eating my prize hostas! I’m off to get some spent coffee granules tomorrow!

A few blog readers have asked for more pictures of the garden. He are more pictures of the front garden, because we do not have a back garden!

Right of picture is the pear tree in blossom. In the foreground is the Magnolia, flowering has almost come to an end.

We planted 10kgs of daffodills in the lawn in November 2006, so we are waiting for them to die down, before cutting the entire lawn.

Has the chimney moved?
I’ve also completed and fixed some code, I’ve been working on for months, so the pictures displayed above are thumbnail versions of the original versions which are also stored on the blog server, they are “clickable”. So if you click the pictures you will see the original images before resizing to fit the blog.

I’ve been away from my home and fish house, I’ve spent 10 days back in the West Country – Plymouth to be exact. I visited the following Tropical Fish Shops, when visting in and around Plymouth, and excellent stock of fish on display, South American Cichlids and Ls, I just wish I could have taken them all home!

- Devon Tropicals, 146, Union St, Plymouth, Devon, PL1 3HL
- Emperor Tropicals, 9, St. Erth Rd, Plymouth, Devon, PL2 3SW
- Maidenhead Aquatics @ Plymouth,Plymouth Garden Centre, Fort Austin Avenue, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 5NU
- Plymouthdiscus.Com, 48, Thirlmere Gardens, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 5HF.

- Tamar View Aquatics, Tamar View Nurseries Garden Centre, Saltash, PL12 6PH
- Tropical Waters Aquatic Pet Centre, Christian Mill Business Park, Tamerton Foliot Rd, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 5DS
- Waterfall Aquatics, 89-91, Victoria Rd, Plymouth, Devon, PL5 1RX
