Whoops – and the LifeGard FB900 doesn’t need fluidzing anymore!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

As previously hinted in a recent posting, I’ve been having difficulties fludizing my LifeGard FB900, the instructions state that a 600lph powerhead should be ample to do this, but I’ve found the back-pressure caused by the sand in the filter affects the powerheads performance, and its not up to the job, I’ve tried a Hagen 301, Maxijet 600, and a Juwel 1000lph powerhead to no avail.

I’ve emailed Pentair in the US, and wait a response, I think I’m going to have to use an Eheim pond pump, but before I had a chance to do this, I left the LifeGard FB900 in my porch, rather than leaving outside, I didn’t want anyone to steal or frost to damage it.

and then my partner knocked it over this morning and smashed it, it had media and water in it, as she was trying to grab the kittens!

I think you’ve got to laugh sometimes, although, I was not too happy this morn!

So I’m trying to obtain another one, which is proving difficult at present!

UPDATE I managed to obtain another, I almost had two! One direct from German Aquatic distributor, and then another new one appeared on eBay, a tenner cheaper!

Lindsey’s says this is much better! Don’t you think! Umm..!
Needs double digging and soil improver adding, and the planting and mulching.

Lindsey didn’t like the shape of the border! So out with the spade, fork and edging tool again.

Ground has been marked out and cut with edging tool.

New Border5
Grass sods removed and bagged, to take down the local tip, the last time I did this in two car runs, I almost snapped the back axel on the car! Doesn’t seem alot of grass removed but each bag weighs approx 50kg! We will see if the car still works afterwards this week, and Lindsey wonders why the car, makes new noises, with 164,000 miles on the clock, and used as a tractor! I don’t think you can make out my the stainless steel edger (which is bent!) and new Stainless Steel fork, with a 10 year guarantee – nice! Well it’s nice to have, good tools!

A New Garden Border!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Some friends visited us for cream teas on Sunday afternoon (with real Devon clotted cream, none of this crap artificial stuff out of a can!) and in return for signing and witnessing their new wills before they go on holiday! they gave us some new plants from their Plant Nursery for the garden.

So Andy’s had to dig and expand the border to accomodate them all!

After, the border still needs digging over, soil improver adding, and the plants planting!

Thanks to Julie and Pete for the plants!

Summer’s Here

We’ve just started to let the kittens out in the house during the day with Esther.

Growing and up to more mischief. I think we were lucky to get Angus back from the cattery the other week, because the owner loved him so much!

Not really done much with DIY, I’ve been adding more fish tanks in the fish house, and generally tidying up the fish house.

We’ve found some wall lights for the lounge, so the lounge decoration is almost finished, and then there is the curtain rails to fix!

Wild Male Angel Treatment

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I’ve been treating with API Melafix, but I think I’m going to have to change to something stronger. The ulcer is both sides of the body in the same position.

Any ideas, email me

Here is a picture of the fish. Please click the image to obtain a high resolution version.

Angus and Tilda, are a little better with Esther. Angus now plays a little with Esther, but I don’t think Esther understands he’s only 12 weeks old. Tilda is still occasionally hisses at Esther. They’ve had all their innoculations now, and have finished Felix Chicken cat food, and are now on Hill’s Science Kitten dry food.

Aequidens rivulatus aka Green Terror/Gold Saum

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

“Does exactly what it says on the tin” to repeat that well known UK phrase.

The female Green Terror has killed my Rusty Pleco (L077). I’ve had this pleco for about four years, when purchased it had blue eyes, in the last three years has taken on the more rusty colouration.

I purchased a pair of Green Terrors Aequidens rivulatus, from a local fishkeeper, which had difficulties with the male and female, male almost killing the female, and this resulted in a very shy female, unlike the male, which “charges” the tank everytime you go near it. I’ve had them seperated for four months, and the female has slowly been happier, not as shy, sharing the tank, was a Rusty pleco, which I thought was Indestructible (a bit like Captain Scarlet!), she’s proved me wrong! I don’t know why she flipped!

I’m hoping to breed them in the future, If I can get them together.

I like the Aequidens group of South/Central American Cichlids, and many years ago had some Aequidens Pulcher Blue Acaras (I think the latin name has changed since!), which is similiar to the Green Terror, but maybe not a killer!
