Lyrics from Peter Gabriel 3, “Games Without Frontiers”, I’ve been finding it a little boring driving to work, listening to Radio 1 & 2, so decided to dig out some OLD compact cassette tapes from the 80’s, and considering these have not been played since the 80’s sound very good and fresh, in my car stereo!

Yes, I can here you asking, who has a cassette tape player in their car, these days!

My name is Andy, I’m a Grease Monkey!

After watching many episodes of Wheeler Dealers on Quest and watching Ed China (The Mechanic), whilst I was recovering from my serious road traffic accident, and also encouraged by Paul at JLB Electronics.com to complete my own car maintenance, on my new car, I’ve completed its full service, changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter myself. Repaired the central locking, repaired the rear windscreen wiper motor and pump, repaired the seat belt, and replaced the exhaust silencer. I’ve still got a few jobs to complete, replace the head lamps and bulbs, and fit a spare wheel lock, to stop the spare wheel being stolen.

I’ve had to purchase new tools, because they were lost in the old car, and this is my new chest for my tools.

This is the K-Lock spare wheel lock kit.

And this is a hole I’ve drilled/cut in my boot to install it…using my new drill bit from Machine Mart, and it cut through the car body, like butter!

A dab of red oxide paint, top and underneath.

Some grey primer…

And Citroen metallic blue paint, glad it’s under the carpet – not quite sure this is the correct match! This was a tester to check the correct paint match!

Lacquered..

Time for a chop!

August 17th, 2016

The hedge, but I could also do with a hair and beard trim!

It’s now been 10 years, since we moved to the “Shire”, and in that time the privet hedge grown, to about 5-6 feet high, and 4-5 feet wide, the only problem is the width of the drive is disappearing, and becoming difficult to park the cars!

So time for a chop, but my Bro’ (http://groundscaper.co.uk/), a Royal Horticultural Society qualified Horticulturist told me to cut a small portion first, and check if there is any new growth.

I’ve well mulched the hedge, and also watered every night.

Andysworld! is Back! – Did you miss me!? Lots to blog, and catch up!

Last weekend, I wore my Hunter Men’s Argyll Short Knee Wellies for the first time in over six months, for those that don’t know; six months ago I was involved in a serious road traffic accident, and that leads into why there have been few blog posts this year, and have just started to return to part time phased return to work.

To my surprise they leaked, and had developed a fault, on the seam. These were purchased new in June 2015.

I contacted the Just Wellies in the Amazon Marketplace I had purchased them from, and explained that at most, they had only had 6 months use, because this year I’ve been on crutches since January 26th with a fractured right patella (knee cap!) after the road traffic accident.

They escalated the matter to Hunter Boots, which agreed to replace the boots with a new pair, provided evidence was supplied that the old pair had been destroyed.

So here you go, Hunter Boots and Just Wellies

Destroyed as agreed.

Thanks Again, for Great Customer Service!

Linux is #@&%ing Weird (Bryan Lunduke’s latest)

Spend 30 minutes and have a watch of this 30 minute video, many years ago I would notice BSOD (Blue Screen Of Deaths) on screens around the world, e.g. airports, railway stations that were using Windows to run Windows applications e.g. real time display information.

It seems we’ve entered a new era, and maybe one day, Microsoft Windows will not be the Desktop commonly used today.

Experiments with different Intel Processors in a HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8 – Part 4

May 20th, 2016

Still experimenting with different processors, and I came across this part random HPE Part Number 832667-001 – Heatsink 65W – For use with ProLiant Microserver, this is the larger heatsink which is supplied with the HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8, supplied with an Intel Core i3-3240 processor, which has a TDP of 55 watts, which I mentioned in this blog – Experiments with different Intel Processors in a HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8 – Part 2.

So I thought let’s get a shipment of these in to test and play with for shits and giggles!

Here are some photographs of the 65 watt heatsink for the Proliant Microserver Gen8

Some testing to do later with Core i3-3240 and Core i5-3470T.

Experiments with different Intel Processors in a HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8 – Part 3

May 7th, 2016

In a continuation of this series – Experiments with different Intel Processors in a HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8 – Part 2, I imported a new processor from the US, see this blog – Purchasing items from eBay using the Global Shipping Program Part 2.

And in the box was a new Intel® Core™ i5-3470T Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz) to test and try with the HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen8, using ECC memory. So what’s the difference between a Core i3 and a Core i5?

This Core i5 has a slower clock speed, of 2.9GHz compared to the Core i3, 3240, has the same number of cores and threads, but it is only 35 watts compared to 55 watts, so a better match for the stock heatsink rated at 35 watt only. This is the T version of the processor, which is rather scarce compared to the non-T version which has a higher clock speed and wattage (77w).

From the”Intel Ark” – no ECC hey!
