Day 2. – Game of Thorns Part 2

So my arms got so badly cut up with hawthorn and blackthorn, I’m wearing my leather cow-hide beekeeping gauntlets today, so I look like I’m handling radio active waste, and the thorns are still cutting into my hands and skin through the leather!

This is as far as we’ve got today, and another 8 bags to the dump!

See pictues of what we’ve cut, and what we’ve got to cut, some of this has been cut by hand with just lopers, as it’s too thick for the hedger to go throw.

Day 1. – Game of Thorns Part 1

We’ve started to cut the hedge today, Lindsey & I have been busy pruning, well cutting down our hedge which surrounds the house from about 15 foot to 6 foot. The hedge was not cut last year, and it’s grown by 4-5 feet! It’s been a difficult and tiring job, not only the cutting of the hedge, but disposing of all the hedge cuttings to the local dump.

We did ask for quotations to cut hedge but were too expensive…

So here are the first photos of Day 1 the first couple are from the greenhouse side, and then you can see what has been cut, as the bamboo canes were previously hidden and are 8 foot high.

Cloches R Us – Andy finds some more garden cloches!

Saturday, April 29th, 2017

I’ve found two smaller garden cloche, a cobalt blue and clear glass – not sure of there age, but I think the cobalt blue is from a mould, rather than hand blown, as it does not have a pimple on the top!

I’ll be using all these cloches in the garden, to protect seedlings, and plants from frost and mice!

Electric Cobalt Blue Victorian Garden Bell Cloches

Saturday, April 22nd, 2017

I’ve got a bit of a “magpie thing” for blue glass, that’s used in the old medicine bottles….

So when I saw these electric cobalt blue victorian garden bell cloches – I just had to snag them!

I’ve never seen blue versions before, but I have seen clear glass versions. I’m going to use them to protect my pumpkin seedlings from frost. It will be interesting to see how blue light affects the plant growth.

Time for a chop!

Wednesday, August 17th, 2016

The hedge, but I could also do with a hair and beard trim!

It’s now been 10 years, since we moved to the “Shire”, and in that time the privet hedge grown, to about 5-6 feet high, and 4-5 feet wide, the only problem is the width of the drive is disappearing, and becoming difficult to park the cars!

So time for a chop, but my Bro’ (http://groundscaper.co.uk/), a Royal Horticultural Society qualified Horticulturist told me to cut a small portion first, and check if there is any new growth.

I’ve well mulched the hedge, and also watered every night.

Andysworld! is Back! – Did you miss me!? Lots to blog, and catch up!

Last weekend, I wore my Hunter Men’s Argyll Short Knee Wellies for the first time in over six months, for those that don’t know; six months ago I was involved in a serious road traffic accident, and that leads into why there have been few blog posts this year, and have just started to return to part time phased return to work.

To my surprise they leaked, and had developed a fault, on the seam. These were purchased new in June 2015.

I contacted the Just Wellies in the Amazon Marketplace I had purchased them from, and explained that at most, they had only had 6 months use, because this year I’ve been on crutches since January 26th with a fractured right patella (knee cap!) after the road traffic accident.

They escalated the matter to Hunter Boots, which agreed to replace the boots with a new pair, provided evidence was supplied that the old pair had been destroyed.

So here you go, Hunter Boots and Just Wellies

Destroyed as agreed.

Thanks Again, for Great Customer Service!

Happy Halloween 2015

Saturday, October 31st, 2015

In an Andysworld yearly tradition, Happy Halloween, and Welcome To The Great Pumpkin Massacre of 2015. I’ve been growing my large Atlantic pumpkin this year, which weighed just short of 10kg, I’m afraid I lost to my work colleague, who’s pumpkin weighed in at 17kg! So freshly picked from the allotment this morning, and slaughtered and carved this evening!

It has been rubbish weather this year for growing pumpkins, and very few fruits, set correctly, this was the only one, early in the year.
