I’ve ordered an additional five Twin Packs of Screwcumbers.Contact Gary Evans for details. It’s much easier feeding cucumber and courgettes to Ancistrus and other loving veggie catfish using Screwcumbers.

Friday, September 16th, 2005A Warm Day
Tuesday, September 13th, 2005Another warm day in York, and the fish house temperature increased to over 33 degrees C. No adverse effects noticed, apart from the perspiration on my brow at feeding time.
Air pumps and filters are proving enough aeration at present.
Anatomy of a fish
Monday, September 5th, 2005Fish Updates
A quick update on the fish I’ve discussed in the last week.
Ancistrus Sp.
The 40+ common and albino fish are feeding and growing on very well, eating vast quantities of cucumber, courgette and Tetra Algae Wafers.
Various Angelfish
Considering they are currently housed in the same quarantine tank with the Kribensis and Orange Gourami feeding very well on frozen bloodworm and Tetra Prima.
Bueno Aires Tetra
Dorsal and caudal tail are showing signs of re-growth. Feeding well as always.
Purple Spotted Gobies/Gudgeon
I fear I may have one casualty, the fish that I had removed to a separate quarantine tank, has a bacterial infection around the caudal peduncle. It appears very red and bloody.
The qurantine tank has been treated with MelaFix at 5 millilitres per 40 litres. I’ve also another Purple Spotted Gobies/Gudgeon because it was being attacked by the sole fish. So this quarantine tank now has only one Purple Spotted Gobies/Gudgeon left in the tank. These are very vicious fish, I think I call this fish Sid!
Bank Holiday Monday
Monday, August 29th, 2005The new arrivals are settling in well and feeding on bloodworm and Tetra Prima, still not installed the Lifegard Fluidized bed filter because I cannot get the flow rate correct and the media (sand) keeps flowing out into the test bucket.
I’ve also been to the local garden centre this afternoon to purchase two replacement Tropical Marine Centre 8 watt UV tubes for my UV filter to keep the algae down in the display tanks, my old Gibbiceps has become very lazy and doesn’t each my algae these days, just prawns and a little bit of cucumber. These tanks are located in a conservatory, and due to the excess heat and sunlight in the summer months causes too much algae growth, a garden pond UV filter connected in line with an Eheim 2015 external canister filter helps out. A stupid place to put tropical fish tanks, they get too warm in the summer, and a little cold in the winter, but there’s no room anywhere else!
