Holiday Photos 2015 – 2017 (at last!) – I told you I’d get round to it!

August 23rd, 2017

This blog post is long overdue, and it’s to notify you that I have now fully updated the Holiday Photograph Album, to include the holiday photographs we’ve taken on the following holidays from March 2015 to August 2017. If you are interested in looking at our photographs, there are a few….(and a special treat the Reviewer – Lindsey has included a few photos of herself, which is a rare treat!)

I’ll also include some written “narration” because I’ve removed Lindsey’s catalog numbers, the link above will take you directly to the album if you want to go direct to the photos for specific holidays, click below

1. India & Bhutan (Feb/March 2015)

Just a few snaps of interesting things in Barcelona.

3. Jordan (March 2016 Postponed due to Accident)

4. Spain – Malaga, Cordoba, Seville, Granada (Sept 2016)

(Photos in this order – Malaga, Cordoba, Seville, Granada)

5. Jordan – (March 2017)

(Photos in this order – Amman, Jerash, Mount Nebo, Madaba, Shoback, Little Petra, Petra Day 1, Petra Day 2, Wadirum, Dead sea, East Desert Castles).

I have got an excuse, as you know I was involved in a car accident in 2016, which delayed me completing the album, and it does take a lot of work, as I have to resample all the photos, and manually code the website, and that involves my brain and some JAVA! (not coffee, computer programming!), and the computer the code was on has failed!

Anyway another Task on the To Do List – Completed!

Day 4 – Game of Thorns Part 4

August 20th, 2017

Day 4. – Game of Thorns Part 4

Hopefully today, will be the final day, and I will be able to just run the hedger through the remainder of the hedge. So not as labour intensive, and we can finish early.

The hedge is CUT, just a little tidy up todo around my greenhouse!

Day 3 – Game of Thorns Part 3

Day 3. – Game of Thorns Part 3

another Saturday, another weekend, and we are stilling cutting the hedge, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel, as we are now out of the majority of hawthorn and brambles!

Yes, that is a christmas tree in the front garden planted about approx 20 years ago..

Day 2 – Game of Thorns Part 2

August 14th, 2017

Day 2. – Game of Thorns Part 2

So my arms got so badly cut up with hawthorn and blackthorn, I’m wearing my leather cow-hide beekeeping gauntlets today, so I look like I’m handling radio active waste, and the thorns are still cutting into my hands and skin through the leather!

This is as far as we’ve got today, and another 8 bags to the dump!

See pictues of what we’ve cut, and what we’ve got to cut, some of this has been cut by hand with just lopers, as it’s too thick for the hedger to go throw.

Day 1 – Game of Thorns Part 1

August 13th, 2017

Day 1. – Game of Thorns Part 1

We’ve started to cut the hedge today, Lindsey & I have been busy pruning, well cutting down our hedge which surrounds the house from about 15 foot to 6 foot. The hedge was not cut last year, and it’s grown by 4-5 feet! It’s been a difficult and tiring job, not only the cutting of the hedge, but disposing of all the hedge cuttings to the local dump.

We did ask for quotations to cut hedge but were too expensive…

So here are the first photos of Day 1 the first couple are from the greenhouse side, and then you can see what has been cut, as the bamboo canes were previously hidden and are 8 foot high.

Ultra fast FIBRE Broadband is 20m away from our house! It’s now in the “Shire!”

wrong

I’m just going to have to correct the title of these previous posts, where I have used the term Superfast Broadband, because Superfast Broadband refers to the technology of what we call Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) in the street, and then the remaining broadband is supplied by a copper telephone line to the property. From the cabinet to the Exchange  your maximum download speed is approx 76MBps, but depending on the length of copper from your house to the cabinet in the street, will reduce your download speed, because of noise/crosstalk on the copper line.

Ultra fast FIBRE Broadband referred to as Fibre To The Premises/Property (FTTP) or Fibre To The Home (FTTH) is where the property is connected to the Exchange directly on FIBRE! Therefore the maximum speed is 1GBps, currently maximum packages are 330MBps download, and 50MBps upload.

It’s ULTRA FAST FIBRE broadband which is coming to the shire! Which at this current time only 3% of the population have FTTP, so if this is true, and we are due to get FTTP installations in the SHIRE!, I’m very happy!

On the 15th May 2017, I spotted that they had pulled the fibre through to the base of my telegraph pole.

A few weeks ago, (19 June) I noticed two crayon markings next to two BT manhole covers, a week later (26 June) the pavement outside my house has been dug up, and a new telephone duct has been laid between two BT manhole covers.

Information obtained from Roadworks.org, which is a website you can view to look at all roadworks in the UK, they have been logged and authorised with your local councils! This listed the original notice here, and indicated that this work was scheduled for late August – September 2017. So I’ve been speculating as to when this website, will change to accepting orders!

The great thing about Roadworks.org, if you a roadworks stalker, you can setup alerts to notify you of changes in a defined area, and an alert popped into my Inbox this morning… stated this work to add new telegraph poles is to start!

So will I be able to place my order for ULTRA FAST FIBRE broadband in August 2017 ?

Received my delivery of Bumble Bees from @Dragonfli and a Bonus Swarm of Honey Bees arrived the very same day!

May 26th, 2017

on Wednesday 24th May , I received my delivery of Bumble Bees from Dragonfli, my neighbours reported a swarm of honey bees landed in their back garden, and then later flew over the wall, and settled on my blue recycle bin!

So whilst I hived my bumble bees, and waited 30 minutes to release them, I quickly got my Beek gear together to quickly put the swarm in a swarm box!

The honey bee swarm was captured by me, and hived – they are currently doing well, but I’ve left them to do their thing, before I inspect.

Traditionally according to the rhyme a load of hay, but it looks like a prime swarm, by the number of bees, which could have a laying queen, and also later by the weight in the box, I’ll let you know, how they turn out?

Last week of May and first week of June – “Swarming Season”

The beekeeping rhyme goes…

A swarm in May is worth a load of hay,

A swarm in June is worth a silver spoon,

A swarm in July ain’t worth a fly.

This weekend is reported to be the hottest weekend of the year, and if memory serves me correct, it’s at this time of year when the swarms arrive.

So I’ve put out five bait hives, these are just used bee hives, with old comb, which to bees stinks of bees and is heaven, in hope to catch a swarm of bees.

Some interest being shown already, shot on an iPhone 7 in slow motion!

fingers crossed.

Bumblebee delivery next week

May 17th, 2017

I’ve just received an email from DragonFli, my Bumblebees will be delivered next week, I hope the rain stops…
