May 5th, 2020At present there seems to be a growing frenzy across the nation – I wonder why? All my usual online seed and greenhouse suppliers are out of stock or stating 28-day delivery lead times, on items!
So a few of you readers, have been sending me photos and telling me what you’ve been growing.
So this has inspired this blog today, to show you What is growing in Andysworld! greenhouse?
I currently do not have any compost, so I’ve had to resort to “Andys Special Blend No.1” – e.g. homemade compost from compost corner!

Lindsey and I are working from home, from the “shire” and all is well.
We are so lucky, working from home with views open countryside in this rural idyll, with Ultrafast broadband, fibre connected thanks to EU funding!

Purchasing items from eBay, Be Careful of Chinese Hidden Sellers! – SCAM – you decide ?
February 1st, 2020You can select a filter on eBay which shows only UK Sellers. See here in the listing the Item Location is stated as Manchester, United Kingdom.
BUT, if you take the trouble to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the description (using a web browser on a PC, not the eBay App), you’ll will notice that our Seller is from CHINA !
eBay does not view this as fraud! I guess because they make so much of their income from these sellers!
I don’t really have an issue where the item is located, BUT when an item is clearly a fake, see picture below, both of these are a plastic caps for the Suzuki Swift expansion bottle for the radiator fluid.

Now you would think, well this is eBay, I’ve got Buyer Protection, and I can return the item for a refund! True.
But when the Seller has created a Returns Process, which requires you to use the eBay Returns procedure, and you’ve got to print and pay for a postage label through eBay, at £3.75, it’s hardly worth the effort to return the item, which cost £4.24!
So who wins the seller, and just pockets £4.24!
I suspect if everyone never returns an item, that’s a nice business model if done 1000x!
Oh, the original Suzuki part, cost 4x as much!
So if it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Be Aware, when shopping on eBay!
(if you are wondering why the cap needed replacing… ah well that would be the mice!)

Return to Mandelbrot sets using a Supercomputer! – the Nvidia DGX-1

Five years have past since I last wrote about Mandelbrot sets, when I use two Nvidia Tesla K40s to generate the Mandelbrot set.
Both those GPUs had only 2,880 compute cores each, a total of 5,760, The Tesla V100 in the Nvidia DGX-1 has 5,120 cores per GPU, and there are 8 GPU, so a total of 40,960 cores.
Here is a video comparing 1 x CPU on the left and 8xGPUs on the right! The same Mandelbrot regions are explored in real time, left and right. The CPU is running at 5fps(150ms), and the GPUs at 50fps (3ms)

There’s a mouse in the house! Inexpensive Wildlife camera!
November 8th, 2019I’ve been having an issue with mice everywhere at the moment, in the “wendy house”, my car, my fish house.

They’ve been eating through the bird food bins in that I keep in the “wendy house”, because I think my anti-mouse deterrent has stopped working!
So I purchased a Wildlife camera, really cheap from Amazon.co.uk, and it works really well!!
