Andysworld! Advent Calendar – Dec 6 – Treat your computer this Christmas and Upgrade your Browser

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Your browser is an important piece of software on your computer. It is what you use to surf the internet: it’s the window around the web sites you visit.

There are many browsers available, each with a variety of features. You may use one of these browsers already

Personally, I use Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. I thought it was about time to upgrade my version of Mozilla, as some websites, were complaining it was out of date!

old Mozilla Firefox 3.5.19

New Mozilla Firefox 8.0

So, go on, and treat your computer this Christmas, and Upgrade to a Current version!

Andysworld! Advent Calendar – Dec 4 – Is your Broadband Slow and unreliable?

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

If your telephone master socket, looks like this example, it could be the problem!

UK BT Master Telephone Socket

UK BT Master Telephone Socket with many extensions

try removing a few extensions, and just connect your Broadband Modem or Router!

(this example provided by a friend, it did have more extensions, that have since been removed! The ADSL Broadband Router light did not light )

If you fancy some DIY, you can change the BT Master NTE5/5A faceplate, for a modern NTE2005, (ADSL faceplate) which has a connection for telephone and Broadband USB Modem or Router, and then there is no need to use an additional broadband filter. NTE2005 (ADSL faceplate) are readily available on eBay and Online.

Andysworld! Advent Calendar – Dec 1 – New Wellington Boots

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Twenty-four days until Christmas 2011, so lets treat you to a blog a day! the Andysworld! Advent Calendar! (just without the chocolates!).

My Wellingtons Boots or Wellies for many years, have been in a very sorry state,  they’ve split and leak!

So with my Birthday money from Family and Friends (Thank You!), I’ve purchased a new pair of Hunter wellies – Hunter Argyll Short Knee Wellington Boots.

I did not purchase from Hunter, but a local business in Yorkshire TotallyWellies.Co.Uk.

I had to get the Short Knee version, because as Lindsey, said “you’ve got fat little legs” – I just look like “Compo”  now!

Fish House Thermometer

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

I’ve been doing some fixing, the computer which controls, a few things in the fish house has been repaired. So I am able to remotely monitor Fish House Air temperatures, and also exterior temperatures again. Although the external temperature probe needs re-calibrating again!

New HD Video: How to create a Windows Server 2003 virtual floppy boot disk using VMware vSphere 5.0

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

I do not have any floppy disks anymore, and as I’ve blogged many times, I don’t do the physical! Some System/Server Administrators seem to have forgotten the art of How to create a Windows Server 2003 boot disk, very useful to have if you’ve managed to corrupt the master boot record and cannot boot your OS, it’s not a big deal if you have a virtual server, you can create a virtual floppy to boot in minutes and recover your server, and service is restored, and why not leave the virtual floppy disk connected, it’s not causing any issues!

This step by step video How to create a Windows Server 2003 virtual floppy boot disk, demonstrates how to create a virtual floppy, format, copy the required files, and boot your server.
