Are you up all night…….
fantastic….you will notice a Supertramp rift in the song from the later 70s!
I’ve just returned from a excellent, fantastic gig by Midge Ure, at Pocklington Arts Centre. A brilliant gig of all his great songs, and especially a fantastic rendition of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Dancing With Tears In My Eyes – so very true due to recent events!
Not to put a downer on the event, the gig was fantastic, but to be honest and truthful I did have tears in my eyes, and found it difficult to hold them back when meeting Midge this evening. (due to recent events!). A very emotional evening.
Midge did comment “that he does write bloody miserable songs!” and wished us all the best.
A truly sureal moment, growing up in the 80s and listening to Midge Ure/Ultravox and then to meet Midge in person.
Thanks to Midge, Berenice (and my Dad!)
“a night I’ll not forget!” – Andy
Another fanastic concert by Marina and her band. The University union gig was packed in like sardines in a can. A cross section of the public from teenagers to Mums and Dads escorting their children, or Mum’s escorting their children! (got to be careful what I write, as there’s children reading the blog!).
This video is also available in HD, as it was shot in HD, on a Cisco Flip HD! Just change the you tube options, if you’ve got the bandwidth!
Bootleg DVDs available of the Marina and the Diamonds, Leeds University 5th November 2010 ‘Burger Queen Tour’ gig at a £5 donation towards DVD and p&p (UK), and electricity required to transcode and burn the DVDs!
I wish! Off to see Marina and the Dimaonds again tomorrow night at Leeds University Students Union on the Burger Queen Tour 2010 . Again, same rules apply – mid life crisis – billy no mates, going on his own! But I had to pay £15 this time! Must charge flip camera and digital camera!
Are you satisfied with an average life ?
Do I need to lie to make my way in life ?

Marina & The Diamonds@Leeds Met 31 May 2010 – A few videos
the sounds quality is appalling because the high volume from the PA at the gig overloaded the camera’s internal microphone. but here are a few videos captured live at Leeds Met on the evening of 31 May 2010.
But the Gig was FAB! Thanks Marina!

Just back from Marina & The Diamonds@Leeds Met – Fantastic Gig
An artist to watch for the future, excellent voice, excellent lyrics, plays piano, writes own songs, attractive……very Kate Bush! (maybe!)
Videos are rendering upload soon….
My ticket has arrived to see Marina and the Diamonds at Leeds Metropolitan University Student Union on the 31 May 2010, Lindsey thinks I’m having a mid-life crisis, it’s been about 26 years since I last purchased a ticket to see a pop group that was charting for a mere tenner! Lindsey didn’t want to go! So billy no-mates is going on his own!
The next time your browsing through your compact disc music collection, assuming you still purchase or collect compact discs, have a look for the HDCD symbol on the back of the compact disc box, or on the sleeve notes.
HDCD – High Definition Compatible Digital, or HDCD is a patented encode-decode process, now owned by Microsoft since 2000, that improves the audio quality of standard Redbook audio CDs, while retaining backward compatibility with existing Compact disc players. Not to be confused with SACD (Super Audio CD), it can only be dedoced on some compact disc players that have HDCD support.
HDCD encodes the equivalent of 20 bits worth of data in a 16-bit digital audio signal by using custom dithering, audio filters, and some reversible amplitude and gain encoding; Peak Extend, which is a reversible soft limiter and Low Level Range Extend, which is a reversible gain on low-level signals. There is thus a benefit at the expense of a very minor increase in noise.
But since 2000, Microsoft acquired the company and all of its intellectual property assets and included the technology in Microsoft Windows Media Player.
Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11 running on Windows XP and Windows Media Player 11 running on Windows Vista or Windows 7 are all capable of decoding and playing HDCDs on personal computers with a 24-bit sound card installed.
Media Player 9 indicates the presence of an HDCD by enabling the logo in the control bar at the bottom of the application window.
This was changed in versions 10 and 11; if an HDCD is inserted into a compact disk player with WMP 10/11 running, the HDCD logo appears only if the HDCD feature is disabled. So again, the HDCD logo only appears if you’ve got it disabled.
To enable HDCD decode on Windows Vista and Windows 7 you need to enable it. Select Tools/Options/Devices/Speakers in Windows Media Player
Does it sound any different, well you have to test it and find out!?
I’ll blog in another post, how you can re-rip all your CDs including this new detailed information!
