More April Showers on Andy’s Allotment!

rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb, it’s still damn raining, and the allotment is disappearing under more water, I’ve planted my comfrey, rhubarb and horse raddish. But the ground is far too wet, to plant my potatoes, onions, garlic and shallots, they will just rot in the ground.

My strawberry plants and asparagus corns have arrived, I’m not sure when I’ll get these planted now as the allotment is too wet, and looking at the weather forecasts, rain until Saturday!

April Showers on Andy’s Allotment!

the weather has been terrible, and we’ve been plagued with heavy showers, I was waiting for the ground to settle, now I’ll be waiting for it to dry out…or maybe a rice paddy or water cress?

looks like planting will have to wait, the allotments, are rather wet……

I have planted something, I’ve moved some Comfrey “Bocking 14”, up to the allotment plot, but must move my rhubarb and raspberry canes up shortly, if the ground is not to wet.

Andy’s Allotment Easter 2012 Update

I’ve been preparing the ground on the allotment, which measures 20m x 5m. Breaking the soil, weeding and removing stones and tree roots.

(it burns off those Easter Eggs!)

Ready for me to plant, potatoes, white and red onions, shallots, garlic, carrots, beetroot, horse radish, asparagus, raspberries, strawberries, goji berries, rhubarb – just a few things to get me started.

Andy does gardening with a hedge trimmer, HOW TO Cut a Conifer – Available for Hire!

Not the hedge trimmer, me, if you want me to do this to your conifer let me know!

It’s fantastic my Stihl HS45 Petrol Hedge Trimmer, goes through hedges like butter, here’s an example, Lindsey wanted the conifer bush reducing in height in front of the window.

Andysworld! Advent Calendar – Dec 9 – Gravel Pit Allotment Association site

Just before it started to snow today, at approx 2pm, I was taking pictures of the Gravel Pit Allotment Association Site, which I believe, and I’m now a Trustee off, as we our a Registered Charity. The top soil has raised the level, we are currently waiting for the top soil to settle.

it was a lovely day, and I went for a quick walk with my new Wellington Boots!

Community Allotments in the shire! – £24,000 has been secured from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme

I’m not sure, if I had, told many people, because I had a “gagging order”, but now I can say, “We are delighted to announce that a grant of almost £24,000 has been secured from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme and we can now begin to action the plans for community allotments in the village……”

Aubergines and Chillies

We cook with a lot of aubergines and chillies, so why not grown your own. I’ve had success for many years with growing chillies, but never had aubergines plants fruit, I think it’s been too cold in the plastic greenhouse, so these seem to be doing well in the porch, which gets to temperatures at 46 degrees C in the sunshine!

Welcome to my New Secret Garden

Lets say the magic word – “Herbidacious”, and welcome to my New Secret Garden …

I’m very fortunate, I’ve been after some land, to grow vegetables on for a while, we still await the outcome of funding for our local allotment association.

A neighbour in the hamlet has kindly agreeded to let me have part of the garden to cultivate and grow vegetables, because the garden is very large and it’s too much for them to maintain. This area of the garden used to be culivated and used as a vegetable plot, 10 years ago.

I’m very excited, don’t know, when I’ll find the time, but it’s very close to where I live. It’s going to be a lot of work, but follow the journey here, it starts now…but well worth it I’m sure.
