As the local farmers lift the potatoes before the frosts from the fields, I thought it was about time to lift all my potatoes, I’ve had a good crop of Anya, Edzell Blue and Lady Balfour this year, the first earlies Epicure, weren’t very good, so I’ll be dropping them from my grow list next year. I’ve had bumper crops from Anya, so I think I’ll be growing more of this salad variety next year. The potatoes have certainly done better than the tomatotes! Here are some pictures of the final harvest this year drying on the rotten porch in the sun.

Final Harvest of potatoes
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009Potatoe Harvest Time
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009I’ve harvested the last of the First Earlies I planted out in March this year and dug up the last plant, it revealed much better potatoes, the variety I grew was Epicure. But I don’t think I’ll be selecting this variety next year.
But the Second Earlies Edzell Blue I also planted out in March, have done extremely well, and I thought the tubers, when planted were all shrivelled up and rubbish when I planted them out. It just goes to show, looks can be deceptive.

Potatoes in exhibitor bags
Sunday, April 5th, 2009I’ve now planted all my potatoes , first and second earliers, salad and main crop in exhibitor bags. Not having an allotment or space to put a row of potatoes in (unless I did up the lawn, now there’s an idea, wouldn’t need cutting then!), exhibitor bags will have to do for the moment.
