Don’t try this at home!

Friday, September 25th, 2009

If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know I’ve been growing chillis this year. Four of my plants, are now producing very small red chillis, pointing upwards.

So last night, after feeding my fish in the fish house,  on returning into the house, in the porch I picked one small red chilli off one of the plants and popped it into my mouth like a tomato and ate it!

It looked so tempting!

BIG MISTAKE!

IT WAS VERY HOT!

It took 2 pints of milk over 60 minutes to cool my flaming mouth down.

I should have taken note of the variety I planted

I’ll not be doing it again!

10 inches long

Lindsey would say, “I wish”, but I’m referring to my chillis!

My chillis are 10 inches long, and have been very successful in my front porch, despite only five germinating.

Chilli plants in July in the porch

Chilli plants in July in the porch

These chilli plants have been grown from seed, I did think I would lose them all at one time, but since transplanting into larger pots, they started to do very well, and signs of flowers haved started to appear in the last few days.

I’ve now planted out all my tomatoe plants, so the porch is empty except the chilli plants and butternut squash seeds I’ve just planted.

Although my early tomatoe plants did very well this year in the porch early on, too much light has caused them to bolt, and become very thin and long, I’m not too sure If I’m going to have another disaster, last year, the cold in the green house was causing them issues, this year, the heat was right in the porch, but too much light, so next year I think I’m going to have to grow on early, and transfer them to the greenhouse under cover.

But the chilli plants love the heat and light in the porch, so maybe next year, I’ll just grow chillis!

Anyway I hoping I get some chillis off these plants for making chilli for Paul/Sally and David when he visits in his new Nissan GT-R!

eh, David pictures of the last but one car… (not the Fiat!). I preferred this one to the VW EOS, isn’t that a hairdressers car? (no offense intended to hairdressers!)

Tomatoe Update

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

An update on the tomatoes and chilli plants growing in the porch. Tomatoes are doing very well, chilli plants are very slow growing, I may transfer into 3″ pots now. I’ve been asking people, if they want any free tomatoe plants, not had any takes yet! I don’t know what’s the matter with them, if I was offered FREE tomatoe plants, I would take them. The weather has been so warm outside, that two of my tomatoe plants were severely affected by heat and wilted, one has recovered fully, the other looks very poor.
