HOW TO Publish from Microsoft Word to Wordpress

Monday, February 8th, 2016

I’ve wanted to publish/write articles for Andysworld! For many years, directly from Microsoft Word (offline), and then hit a button to publish. I never noticed that Microsoft Word has this incorporated!

You select:-

  1. File > New
  2. Blog Post > Create

  1. Select your Account (blog)
  2. Select a category
  3. Type something.
  4. Hit Publish

Simply! Done!

Andysworld! is back, and fixed!

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

Yes, sorry for the few days outage, it would appear that a Wordpress plugin just decided to go bad!

and the answer is or was:-

The Plugin “Tweet This”! I”m running version 1.5.1

Adds a “Tweet This Post” link to every post and page. Shortens URLs in advance through Th8.us (19 characters). Customize under Settings > Tweet This. By Richard X. Thripp.

there is new version 1.8, but I do not like upgrading for the sake of upgrading, and not being able to upgrade to 3.3.1 of Wordpress because if the php on the host, and most plugins are now designed for 3.3.1…

Stange how a plugin went bad. I’m going to leave for a few days….

Scary stuff…

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Not happy with the current performance of the blog, and wanting to do more adventurous things with it, I’m considering moving the hosting of it, if I cannot get the performance issues fixed. There’s quite a bit of data to move from http://andysworld.org.uk, which has ended up here over the last five years. This is probably going to be a two step process, in changing the domain records and then moving the web hosting (actual data and blog!).

I don’t know how long this is going to take me to organise, so just giving you the heads up now, just in case one day http://andysworld.org.uk doesn’t respond in how it should (which is happening quite a bit at present with blank page responses!).

I’ll try and give you warning with one last post, before I shutdown and move!

Tweaking the blog!

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Sorry nerdy alert, boring stuff!!!!

just been tweaking the blog….I’ve been tweaking the blog to log php errors, increasing the memory for php scripts, to try and get rid of the errors which are occuring still!

so, I’ve modified the following things, and it seems a good place to note them here for later…

define(’WP_DEBUG’, true);
define(’WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’);
define(’AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL’, 10 ); // seconds
@ini_set(’log_errors’,'On’);
@ini_set(’display_errors’,'Off’);
@ini_set(’error_log’,'/home/example.com/logs/php_error.log’);

All Done!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

I’ve completed the migration of data from the old legacy FishHouse and Our House blogs to this new blog Wordpress.

New posts for the fish house blog can be located in the fish house category, and likewise with posts to the our house blog, can be located in house.

I’ve left the old legacy blogs in place for the current time. If you find any issues please let me know.

Our House imported posts from legacy blog

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

I’ve now imported all the posts from the old Our House blog. I’ve still got to convert the posts with photos and internet links in before they get published here. I think I’ve decided to take the plunge, and no longer update the old legacy blogs, and new posts will appear on this new blog, in the various categories, sections or topics. It will make things easier for posting, and make easier reading. To keep the timeline correct, they’ve all been tagged as category house, but I’ve also tagged them in other relevant categories. So over the coming weeks, you’ll see more of the older posts appearing, once they’ve been duly converted (provided WordPress and the hosting holds out!)

Still struggling with WordPress running config

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Still having issues with the performance of Wordpress. As you may have noticed by now when visiting the site, sometimes it just displays a blank page with no error. I’m still trying to track down the fault, it’s possibly caused by MySQL database issues, PHP errors, PHP Memory issue or lack of performance on host! So I’ve currently disabled all plugins, to test if it’s a plugin fault!!!

i broke it!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

okay, I’ll come clean, I broke it. In messing with the mysql tables, I must have removed the Page, that is used to display the “posts”. It took me a while to find the issue this evening. I thought it was performance related, and was going to pull wordpress, I only want to upgrade, because I thought it may be quicker, than the older blog software. I’ll carry on testing, but still have issues converting and importing the old data. I may have to export the data, hand convert on a wintel platform, convert all the data, because I think what I’m trying to do, is beyond the access controls I have over the hosted mysql database.
