Fancy That!

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I’ve just been talking to a local fishkeeper recently new to the internet and the world of computing and he recommended I visit the following website:-

This was the comment he made about it:-

An excellent diary of fishkeeping events from andys fish house somewhere in Yorkshire, he breeds Angelfish and Catfish, currently breeding Sturisoma Aureum, also has live webcams from the fish house, and live temperature gauge of internal and external temperatures. Lots of hints and tips from a real fishkeeper. I liked reading his daily ups and downs in the fish house. It’s good to read success and failures, real experiences in the fish house, from a fishkeeper.

Umm. Sound familiar!

I didn’t reveal my identity to him, but I’m sure he’ll be reading this, and the penny will drop!

Okay, back to things, I’ve been busy completing the installation of the latest six tanks, these are now all complete, fitted and filled, filtration is performed by Algarde dual Bio-Foam 200, and heating is provided by Visitherm 200 and 300 watt heaters. It’s taken me a while to tidy-up all the wiring.

I’ve also been very busy, collecting fish from around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. I’ll take some pictures of all these new fish and list the contents of the fish house shortly. I’m away on a course over the next week, so it will be in a few days. I’ve also got the results of my food trial, which I’ll also be publishing.

Angus & Matilda

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

The kittens have been named Angus & Matilda, and are doing very well, Esther still not keen, litter trained already - very good. Tilly is the brain, Angus well he’s just mad!

Angus Little Boy. Gus “Honeybun” for short!

Matilda Little Girl. “Tilly” for short.

They have their own webpages here which have been updated again with pictures taken on the 3 July 2007. It’s much easier for me to add pictures to these dynamic pages, rather than add images to the blog!

Folks in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall will understand the Gus reference! Remember the mushroom! That’s mushroom not mushrooms!

New Kittens!

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

We collected two new kittens today, friends for Esther to keep her entertained during the day. I’ve finally moved enough boxes into the attic, so the kittens could have their own room. The third bedroom.

A ginger and white little boy, and a tabby and white little girl.

They have their own webpages here:-

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

I received my package of Almost Natural Tropical Fish Food today from Ed in Pennsylvania, USA.

I’ve been looking for an alternative product for the fish house to bring fish into condition for breeding for a long time. I’ve received

I keep getting asked if I’ve updated my website or uploaded new pictures.

“A blog (short for web log) is a website where entries are made and displayed in a reverse chronological order.”

If you would like to be automatically updated when I’ve updated the blog, rather than asking me if I’ve updated it, uploaded new pictures or checking back regularly you may like to use an aggregator.

An aggregatoror or news aggregator or feed reader is client software that you install on your PC and uses web feed to retrieve syndicated web content such as blogs, podcasts, vlogs, and mainstream mass media websites, or in the case of a search aggregator, a customized set of search results.

Aggregators reduce the time and effort needed to regularly check websites for updates.

Aggregator features are being built into portal sites such as My Yahoo! and Google; modern web browsers; and e-mail programs. (Also known as RSS Readers).

So include the following URL into your Aggregators.

Set your Aggregator to update daily, and it will collect the new posts automatically.

Back to the West Country

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I’ve been away from my home and fish house, I’ve spent 10 days back in the West Country - Plymouth to be exact. Where the water is soft (ph 6.5-7.0) unlike my local tap water which is hard (you can stand a teaspoon in it!) and ph 8.0 - 8.5. and the vast numbers of tropical fish shops, I spent a day and a half visting them all!

I visited the following Tropical Fish Shops, when visting in and around Plymouth, and excellent stock of fish on display, South American Cichlids and Ls, I just wish I could have taken them all home!

and on the long journey home, I visited

Many Thanks and Good Luck to the following, hope to see you again in the future, on returning to Plymouth.

Ken at Devon Tropicals
Jerry at Bretonside Tropicals
Mark at Tropical Waters Aquatic Pet Centre

and a special thanks to

Chris at Plymouth Discus..

Out and about..

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Whilst travelling up to North Allerton today to collect some new half leather seats for my Peugeot 205, I passed a tropical fish shop called Aquatic Finatic situated on the A168 - Thirsk Road, just outside North Allerton. A little bit too far for a regular visit from York, but definately worth a stop, and browse on the way back, (engine and gearbox needed a cooldown, after raylle-ing around North Yorkshire Dales to the back of beyond to collect my seats!).

A very interesting tropical fish shop, friendly staff, interesting fish, and plenty of ‘Ls’ in stock. A nice discount of ten percent on many fish, if you purchase more than 5. I needed to stock up on Zebra Danios to keep tanks “cycling” so I purchase twenty, and some Hikari Algae Wafers, it’s good to see these back in stock at last.

P.S. The music on the Aquatic Finatic website sounds like, a man on a keyboard at the local social club!
